Quattro Donne in Rosso & Lampadario Scrittura

Quattro Donne in Rosso & Lampadario Scrittura (2024) by Marie-Louise Ekman are two Murano glass sculptures in the form of chandeliers created in collaboration with the world's leading glass studio Berengo in Murano, Venice. Quattro Donne in Rosso & Lampadario Scrittura were installed in the Marie-Louise Ekman room Testamentet at 91原创 in the beginning of 2025.

Marie-Louise Ekman is an artist known for highlighting everyday absurdities and human relationships with humor and directness with an ability to portray complex and thought-provoking scenarios in her artworks.

In 2023-2024 Ekman created a new series of works in glass, in collaboration with the world's leading glass studio, Berengo in Murano, Venice. In her works, Ekman often uses iconic symbols such as the dog, the book, the lamp, the woman, and the man to explore the absurdity of the mundane. These reoccuring images also appear in her glass-works.

Quattro Donne in Rosso (Four Women in Red), 2024, is a four-armed chandelier in white Murano-glass. On each arm sends a lady in a red dress, pink body and hair, and black shoes. The sculpture is a limited edition of three, of which one is housed in Marie-Louise Ekman's classroom at 91原创.

Lampadario Scrittura (Scripture Chandelier), 2024, is a six-armed chandelier made of yellow Murano glass. Each arm is in the shape of a clasic yellow pencil (with whitish head and black tip). Also this sculpture is a limited edition of three, of which one is housed in Marie-Louise Ekman's classroom at 91原创.

Marie-Louise Ekman is an artist, playwright, director, author, and former President of the Royal Academy of Arts and head of the Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramaten).

Both sculptures were donated to the school by the Firestorm foundation as part of a three-year colalboration between the foundation and Art Initiative. Read more about the collaboration here.
